Celebrate Mental Health Week at CMHA Mid-Island’s Kick Off Breakfast! Well known CBC radio broadcaster Shelagh Rogers shares her struggles with depression, and recounts her recovery journey.
“You might catch Shelagh Rogers on the radio. She’s been around for a long time at the CBC. Almost 40 years. Most of that time, she’s sounded upbeat, energetic, cheerful. But sometimes she wasn’t that way. Sometimes, she was empty, full of nothing, lethargic. Then she learned to disguise it by being extra-cheerful, energetic and upbeat. Until she couldn’t do that anymore. And then, you didn’t hear her at all. She had a five-month breakdown and lost her voice.
Shelagh has recovered her mental health. It took some work. And she’s doing all she can to keep that recovery strong. She really believes in recovery. So she is using her voice to Get Loud for Mental Health.”
