HM|HC Info Session: Here2Talk

Posted on October 2nd, 2020

HM|HC Info Sessions are a new resource available for our community of practice. These Info Sessions introduce mental health and substance use-related items, such as research findings, surveys, new services and other resources that may be of interest to our CoP.

For this information session, the topic of conversation is Here2Talk, a free and confidential program that provides all students currently registered with a B.C. post-secondary school access to single-session 24/7 mental health support and community referral services via app, phone and web.

After this session, you will:

  • Learn about Here2Talk, a free virtual 24/7 counselling service, and how this initiative is being implemented across British Columbia
  • Meet stimulus speakers who are working on the initiative
  • Have the opportunity to deepen your understanding by listening to a Q & A session

Speakers

Louis Chen

My name is Louis Chen and I’m currently serving as the acting director for the Human and Social Services Education Unit with the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training. I have been with the various iterations of this ministry since 2009. Prior to joining the BC Public Service, I enjoyed a career as a teacher and academic researcher. In my current role, I am grateful to have the opportunity to contribute to supporting student wellbeing. I look forward to engaging with you regarding Here2Talk.

Nurie Aliperti

Hello, my name is Nurie Aliperti, Senior Policy Analyst with the Human and Social Services Education Unit at the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training. I have been with the BC Public Service since 2009, joining the Ministry in early 2019 after spending 10 years in the Natural Resource Sector with the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations. Our ministry is committed to improving student mental health, safety and overall wellbeing. Thank you for this opportunity to speak about Here2Talk.

Cody Willett

Hi, my name is Cody Willett and I joined the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training’s Human and Social Services Education team as a Policy Analyst earlier this year. Before returning to the public service, I spent the better part of a decade studying political science as a graduate student, and now that my partner is a counsellor in private practice, I feel fortunate to be able to combine my understanding of the student experience with an awareness of the importance of mental health and wellbeing as we work to ensure BC’s Post-Secondary students have 24/7 access to the support they need through Here2Talk.
