Healthy Minds | Healthy Campuses is a province-wide Community of Practice (CoP) that has engaged campus community members from across British Columbia and beyond! Community members include (but are not limited to): student service professionals, students, faculty and staff, administrators, community organizations and government partners. All community members share the common goal of promoting campus mental health and reducing harmful substance use at colleges, universities and institutes. Members range in their level of involvement from observers to sharers, developers and active agenda setters, depending on their interests and availability over time. Community members share their own experiences, discuss strategies they’ve tried, consider new ideas and share resources. Healthy Minds | Healthy Campuses facilitates dialogue and action among members of the Community of Practice. When you join our community, you gain access to a network of people across the province!
As the first provincial community of practice initiative in Canada working to promote campus mental health and healthier relationships with substances, Healthy Minds | Healthy Campuses has included members from outside BC. Although our initiative is BC funded, BC based and BC focused, we have a number of other post-secondary institutions elsewhere across Canada who have been part of the community’s discussions and contribute to our collaborative efforts. Given the success of our community of practice, we are pleased to acknowledge that Healthy Minds | Healthy Campuses has helped seed initiatives in other parts of the country. For example, the Ontario Centre for Innovation in Campus Mental Health was announced in 2013 with the mission to help Ontario colleges and universities enhance capacity to support student mental health and well-being.
Over the years here in BC, we have had a Design Team that provides consultation and support to drive the Community of Practice. An eager group of Student Leaders and Recent Alumni have also been largely involved in shaping our community. Learn more about these groups by following the buttons below.
